REGS World Topics Vol. 26: Redevelopment Transforms Potsdamer Platz – Former IMAX Reborn as a Culinary Destination
From the many architectural updates we receive from GARDE agents around the world, we bring you a unique story of innovative property reuse. This time, we focus on Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz—an area that has become a hub of redevelopment since German reunification. A former IMAX cinema, once a familiar landmark, has been revitalized by London-based street food operator KERB and transformed into KERB BERLIN, a lively food hall that’s drawing attention. Centered around the Sony Center, the area is undergoing a new wave of urban development focused on food culture and community-driven placemaking.
Berlin
A former IMAX cinema, once a beloved local landmark, has been transformed by London-based street food operator KERB into KERB BERLIN, a vibrant new food hall now generating buzz. Located within the Sony Center, the building retains its original exterior while the interior features nostalgic touches like a round bar counter and letterboard signage reminiscent of a classic theater. Designed by KERB, the two-story space includes open kitchens clad in metal panels and a terrace with views of the tent-like roof said to be inspired by Mt. Fuji. It has quickly become a new culinary and cultural destination where Berlin’s architectural legacy meets its evolving food scene.
